Apr 03, 2017 12:01 PM EDT

Xiaomi has taken to another their competition with Apple to a next level with the release of the Mi Notebook Air 12.5-inch and the 13.3-inch variants. The naming scheme for their new laptops has no changes apart from the branding if that matters. Both the products were announced last year with different processors.

However, Xiaomi has upgraded the 12.5 variant with a better processor that was announced by the manufacturer via their official Weibo account. With the new upgrade, the Mi Notebook Air 12.5-inch will now be equipped with an Intel Core M3 7th generation Kaybee lake processor that likely sees an improved performance by 12 percent.

The 13.3-inch meanwhile is also upgraded to an i7 processor. The storage capacity of the Mi Notebook Air 12.5 is now increased to 256GB in addition to the existing 128GB variant. Reports from Gizmo China indicates that both the laptops will retain the options of expanding the storage to a better size, later.

It seems that the new Mi Notebook Air 12.5 has also received a significant upgrade in data connectivity with the help of a 4G Modem that will help in better connection speeds thereby eliminating constant worry about a lack of a Wi-Fi hotspot. Meanwhile, the 13.3-inch variant now has a Skylake 6500U per reports from WCCFTech also revealing that the SSD capacity has been increased to 256GB. With that said, the laptop also synchronizes data with Mi Cloud and can also be unlocked with a Mi band.

A Nvidia maxwell 940M mobile GPU is implemented on the new Mi Notebook Air 12.5 and 13.3-inch variants alongside a battery capacity that will last about more than 10 hours comfortably. A Full-HD resolution on a 12.5-inch display is also equipped with Dolby Digital Surround sound for audio needs that is priced slightly more than $650.
