‘The Dark Tower’ Release Date Moved Again To Face Against ‘Annabelle: Creation’

Sony is targeting a new market for its next big franchise. The company is hoping that a beloved Stephen King series will help them. "The Dark Tower," which stars Matthew McConaughly and Idris Elba, was originally scheduled to hit theaters on Jan. 13. The movie was expected to be a potential early hit in 2017, as they moved back into Feb.17. However, Sony eventually made an announcement that the movie will be pushed back from its original February date and will not hit big screens until July 28 - but that's still not the end of the delay in schedule.

According to Slash Film, Sony has once again delayed the film and moved "The Dark Tower" back one week, which now makes Aug. 4 as its new date. The question now from their fans is whether or not this will be the film's final release date, or if changes could be made once again later.

The release date delay of "The Dark Tower" should ultimately not be too surprising but very disappointing to those that have been waiting to see the movie. The movement of the film's release date now clears the way for Sony to avoid competition with the Charlize Theron action film Atomic Blonde and Edgar Wright's "Baby Driver."

With this, Sony decided to also move "The Emoji Movie" up one week to take "The Dark Tower's" previous spot. According to Forbes, the reaction to the movie has not been great so far, thus a family friendly animated movie that plays directly into the current trends of social media could provide "The Emoji Movie" with a lot of audience and not overtake "The Dark Tower" in the following week.

It is surely surprising for Sony to have changed a movie release in two consecutive weeks that's why the prospect of "The Dark Tower" moving once again may be high. August is typically a slow month for movies, with "Annabelle: Creation" one of the biggest films that is set to debut that month.
