‘Persona 5’ Developer & Publisher Atlus Disables PS4 Share Feature

Mar 31, 2017 09:22 AM EDT

Atlus Video Game Company doesn't want players to spoil the upcoming "Persona 5" experience. The developer and publisher have prohibited PlayStation 4 players from taking videos, screenshots, and sharing them using the console's PS4 Share feature.

According to Game Revolution, the share function for "Persona 5" was reported to be disabled since the game was launched last September 2016 in Japan, not to spoil the Persona fans in the western part of the globe. The share function restrictions not only apply to critical storyline cut scenes like other PS4 games, but also to the entire game itself; except for the opening movie and its main menu screen.

"This Japanese title with solely a single-play through story means Japan is very strict about it. Sharing is currently blocked through the native PS4 UI," said an Atlus representative.

Players who are expecting for the ability to share screen captures and photos after "Persona 5" will be shipped to the rest of the world will be disappointed. Atlus Video Game Company does not plan on lifting the PS4 Share block after the North American launch date.

The strategic efforts in disabling the PS4 Share feature by Atlus are commendable. However, the clocking PS4 Share feature alone will not stop spoilers from making their way to the internet. People can still take pictures from their phones and upload it everywhere; something Atlus can never control, as noted by Polygon.

Western players can have a slew of streamers on YouTube and Twitch to see the game using capture cards as soon as "Persona 5" lands on North American territory. "Persona" fans that would not spoil their favorite game should stay away from Social Medias.

"Persona 5" will hit North American stores on April 4, 2017. The game is the JRPG Game of the Year material, thus, players must expect an extreme gaming experience.
