Shiny Magikarp & Gyarados Still In The Wild Even If ‘Pokemon GO’ Water Festival Ended

Mar 31, 2017 04:04 AM EDT

“Pokemon GO’s” Water Festival just ended on March 29. However, even if the event is already over, the water-type Pokemon, Shiny Magikarp and Gyarados, remain for players to catch, Niantic Labs says. Players desire to catch Shiny Magikarp because the water-type Pokemon is very rare and its chance of encounter is one in every 4,096.

Niantic Labs tweeted on Wednesday about the availability of the Shiny Magikarp that was released as part of the “Pokemon GO’s” Water Festival new updates, Pokemon GO Hub reports. However, that was the only announcement the game developer made. It did not confirm when it would release the additional Shiny Pokemon in the popular game, U.S. Blasting News reports.

4,000 Times More Challenging

Because Shiny Magikarp is so rare, until the “Pokemon GO” Water Festival launch when there were reports of sighting and capture of the monster, collecting a full Pokedex is more than 4,000 times more difficult. A trading system that Niantic is expected to launch soon would likely result in players centering their barter on the special types of Pokemon.

Mic cites leaks about “Pokemon GO,” post-Water Festival era, that Niantic Labs has the code in place to implement having more colorized variants of the monsters, including Shiny Magikarp and Gyarados. The introduction of the shiny Pokemon is the game developer’s way of stimulating interest in the upcoming trading system.

0.59.2 Update Fails

Meanwhile, besides confirming that the Shiny Magikarp and Gyarados would remain in “Pokemon GO” even if the Water Festival is over, Pokemon Go Hub notes that the release on March 29 of the 0.59.2 update, expected by players affected by game crashes and UI bugs introduced in 0.59.1, fixed little or none of the bugs. Sightings is still going blank and “Pokemon GO” continues to crash more frequently than in the past.
