South Korean electronics supergiant Samsung electronics recently unveiled their flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S8 and the S8 Plus at a dedicated launch venue yesterday. After months of rumors and other speculations regarding the smartphones, it's safe to conclude that most of the rumors were proved to be true. That said, aesthetically, the Galaxy S8 smartphones are one of the most uniquely designed smartphones at the moment.
Taking a look at its beautiful display in the front, the first and primary change is on the home button. There's no physical button on the front and the fingerprint scanner is moved to the back side, just next to the camera bump. A review from Forbes suggests that the screen itself might be a huge deal for some smartphone enthusiasts, but that said, Samsung's Galaxy S8 smartphones out of the box will be running at a downscaled resolution of 1080p to save a lot of battery power.
Samsung has actually retained the micro-SD card slot on the new Galaxy S8 smartphones that can support expandable storage up to 256GB. The new flagship devices are now IP68 certified which means that the phones can resist water up to a height of 1.5m or about a maximum immersion of 30 minutes. The new models will be offered in colors like midnight black, orchid gray and also an arctic silver variant for now.
There are no major differences between the models with the S8 having a smaller screen size of 5.8-inches while the Galaxy S8 Plus is a bit more taller with a size of 6.2-inches display. As reported by Pocket-lint, that is the only key difference apart from battery specifications. The former is equipped with a 3000mAh battery which is arguably very low considering the display on the new smartphone that comes at a ratio of 18:9. Meanwhile, the S8 Plus has a slightly bigger battery at 3500mAh capacity.
Both the Galaxy S8 models feature an "infinity edge" display that's also a new change since the older business model only include the edge display for the better variant among the two, for all its predecessors. The US variants will be equipped with an Exynos 8895 chipset while the EMEA variants will be equipped with a Snapdragon 835 chipset.
