Android 8.0 Oreo Update: Nexus 5X, 6P & Pixel Smartphones To Receive Beta Version; May Public Release Possible

Mar 29, 2017 12:32 PM EDT

Android 8.0 Oreo update can be downloaded by the following Google Smartphones, including Nexus Player, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel, Pixel XL, and Pixel C. Since Google's latest OS is still in Beta phase, bugs and glitches are expected to exist, making the platform quite unstable.

Although the Android 8.0 Oreo update is being rolled out in OTA (Over-The-Air) phase, users still can download the OTA files directly by downloading it from Google's official Android website. It is believed that the public version will be released once Google's I/O 2017 Conference ends,  which means around May.

Android 8.0 Oreo update will have significant features like Picture-in-Picture mode, notification categorization, and connectivity improvements. The Picture-in-Picture trait will make the copy-and-paste activity become easier. Another component added to the list is the Google Assistant.

The upcoming OS update will also come with app notifications icon badges that display how many notifications an app has. The icons' images will change depending on certain parameters, just exactly like the Calendar icon in Android 7.0 Nougat.

According to BGR,  Android 8.0 Oreo could also improve the device's battery life. This feature will reduce power consumption for background activity in order to preserve the battery life. It is also said that Google's latest operating system will bring in many improvements to the MediaRecorder API and other "enterprise stuff."

It is expected that Android 8.0 Oreo update will add more enhancements to the Android experience by carrying Visual Tweaks and Media Playback components. Tech enthusiasts are eager to grab this update soon, however, they need to wait at least until Google manages to stabilize the operating system.

Regarding the "O" initial, many have said that it refers to Oreo. That's not surprising since Google has a tradition of naming its operating system after sweets such ask Jellybeans, KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, and Nougat. Google certainly won't have any problem using the Oreo brand name, as reported by GigJets.
