iOs 10.3 Update Introduces ‘Apple File System (APFS)’

Mar 29, 2017 09:07 AM EDT

Cupertino firm Apple has rolled out an update for all iPhone users with the release of iOs 10.3, a regular update that was in a beta phase for some time now. While the new update comes with certain fixes and performance enhancements, the estimated size is around 600MB. It is one of the major patch releases for some time now.

It seems like the struggle for updating iPhones is still there due to the fact that new iOs 10.3 update has eventually led to slower installation times on many devices as per reports from Forbes. The same report also mentioned that their tablets like the iPad Air 2 are taking around an hour of time to fully finish the process. Apple, however, in their support page has urged their customers to not panic and abort the process. They also mentioned that forcibly halting the process might even lead to a device crash or even cause damage to the hardware.

The reason for the slow installation has already been found out by Forbes and it is due to the fact that Apple has introduced a new file system called 'Apple File System or APFS'. The new file system in the iOs 10.3 update helps in improving the backup process and optimizing device storage. Apart from that, the report revealed that APFS is also helping up in freeing storage space on the device. The Verge also revealed that the new update has likely improved the performance and overall response with daily processes on an iPhone 6S Plus.

While the APFS is designed to bring down latency in the new iOs 10.3 update, it also helps greatly in improving read and writes speeds on iOs devices which might not be felt instantly but over time, there will be a much faster data transfer speeds among other things. It seems like users will be able to notice a better performance of their device compared to the previous 10.2 update. The new update also fixes certain interface bugs and other animations that Apple was aware of.
