Microsoft is now planning a big hardware event before the end of Spring 2017, at the event, Microsoft will not unveil a new Surface Book 2 laptop at the event, either the long-awaited Surface Pro 5 will be introduced instead. Microsoft typically holds its Surface hardware events in New York, but the software giant has not yet officially announced plans for a spring hardware showcase.
According to The Verge, it's a contrary to earlier reports that Microsoft will reveal a new cheaper Surface Book within the next few weeks. Microsoft Surface Studio PC only first came last December 2016 and it seems unlikely that Microsoft would be unveiling any kind of major update. The company was said to scrubbed plans to unveil the second version of its HoloLens hologram and go straight to version 3; which will be released in 2019.
As for the software department, Microsoft is ramping up to release the free Windows 10 Creators Update sooner which we already know all about its feature in previous reports. The best scenario laid out by ZDNET is that Microsoft is planning to blow us all away with a new Surface device that nobody sees it coming. Given that the company has already its tablet, laptop, desktop PC, and the holographic headset along with the Project Scorpio next generation Xbox which was set to be revealed closer to this year's summer.
Microsoft might launch an entirely new Surface category. The company announced a clamshell laptop design which is a new category for its Surface devices. Reports created theories that if there are really new Surface-branded clamshell laptops in this year's spring, Microsoft will market them as the Cloud Books or something in line to face against with Chromebooks.
Microsoft has not yet released any official statements regarding for their Surface franchises, the company was expected to share details until the next event, the Build Developers in May. The company is speculated to discuss future updates to Windows 10 at the development and their plans for ARM-powered laptops along with their mixed reality headsets.
