‘Pokemon GO’ Players Have Only Until March 29 To Catch Shiny Magikarp

The “Pokemon GO” Water Festival would end on March 29, Thursday, leaving gamers only just a little more than one day to catch more water-type Pokemon. After Niantic Labs announced the event on March 23, it released new updates that included the Shiny Magikarp. The water-type monster is very rare with a one in every 4,096 chances of an encounter.

Gaming Community Requests For Shiny Magikarp

Shiny Magikarp was included in the “Pokemon GO” Water Festival update because the Pokemon was heavily requested from the gaming community. The monster’s introduction is an indicator of bigger things to come, according to WCCFTech. The festival increased the chance of catching Shiny Magikarp but also other water-type Pokemon.

With “Pokemon GO” Water Festival, a large number of Redditors reported spotting of Shiny Magikarp and Gyarados, especially in watery areas, Fansided reports. The two Pokemon would initially appear as a normal monster on the overworld. However, their shine only comes out when the gamer battles with the two Pokemon. The website adds there is no word yet if the shiny coloration when battling games are limited to Shiny Magikarp and Gyarados or it also happens to other water-type monsters.

Tips From Eurogamer

Eurogamer, which tried catching Shiny Magikarp after the launch of “Pokemon GO” Water Festival, shares that shiny Pokemon are independent. If two gamers would go to same PokeStop, they could catch the same Magikarp with the same stats and IV. However, it would not necessarily both be Shiny Magikarp. The implication of it is that spoofers who change their location to cheat the game would not be able to grab instantly a Shiny a soon as the Pokemon is located.

The gaming website adds that there is Ditto at the “Pokemon GO” Water Festival pretending to be Shiny Pokemon. If gamers would catch a rare Shiny Magikarp and it suddenly transforms into a Ditto, it would not be Shiny although it might be worth holding onto because a game update could include Shiny variants for all Pokemon.
