'Outlast 2' was recently released by an Australian publisher, 18point2 which discussed the reason behind the game's eventual R18+ rating that followed a resubmission to the Classification Board. The game's original submission was sent to the Australian Classification Branch that contains the final game code and a video file for reference taken the form an Alpha version.
The said video file of "Outlast 2" that was sent to the Australian Classification Broad should not have been sent along with its game code; as its content was not a representative of the final game. In the second submission, the same game code and a video file reflecting the final game content was submitted; the game was then approved for the release with an 18+ rating. According to Develop-Online, there will be only one version of "Outlast 2" that will be available worldwide.
After being turned down by the Australian Classification Board earlier this month, the horror game has been successfully re-classified with an adult rating of 18+ by the Australian government. The entry for "Outlast 2" was listed on the Classification Board's website which has confirmed that on March 21, 2017, "Outlast 2" was the R18+ rating along with the warning of violence, blood, sex, gore, and high-impact horror themes.
The classification comes roughly a week after the game's initial classification refusal, it was stated that "Outlast 2" was found to be dealing with some matters of sex, drug addiction, violence, crime and cruelty, abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they cross the line against the standards of decency and morality accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that the game should not be classified.
Reports gathered by Press-Start stated that it appeared there are scenes of implied sexual violence were a significant factor in the board's original decision to refuse "Outlast 2" classification. It was not revealed by the Australian Classification Board on what the reason that they have changed their decision. Developer Red Barrels claimed that "Outlast 2" has been rated R18+ by the Classification Branch in Australia and was set to be released this coming April 26, 2017.
