Mar 27, 2017 11:53 AM EDT

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was a hit right after its release. It was the hottest Android smartphone the tech world had seen. However, it did turn out to be the hottest smartphone in all aspects. Poor battery design resulted in an explosion of several devices. These include property damages and even self-injury.

Due to such serious issues with Galaxy Note 7, Samsung decided to call off all the devices from the global market. The tech giant even urged all the users to either return or exchange their devices for safety reasons. However, most of the potentially dangerous devices have been recalled so far.

Interestingly, the device was so amazing that a small portion of the users has refused to give it up. Even though Samsung knew about this, it is not clear why the tech biggie took so long to take the final step. It is finally taking a step to ensure that the device doesn't cause any more damage.

As the Daily Mail Online report suggests, Samsung would take steps in the following week to disable any Galaxy Note 7 that is still in use. Earlier, the company had mentioned that almost 97% of the devices have been recalled by the company.

Samsung is planning to issue a mandatory software update that would prevent the remaining Galaxy Note 7 to hold a charge BGR reported. This means the devices won't be able to power on unless they are plugged in. Samsung, as well as its carrier partners, has issued a similar update across the US in 2016 as well as early 2017. However, this time the remaining market would get the update.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fans would not have to wait long before the soon to disable smartphone get replaced. This time Samsung is all set to release it's much talked about Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
