Apple iPad Pro vs Apple iPad 2017: Who Comes out On Top?

Mar 27, 2017 08:11 AM EDT

In the last couple of years, the tablet market has been filled with plenty of Apple iPads, but with different variants offered by the Cupertino firm. While all of them have been sold like hotcakes, within minutes of their respective announcements, a recent product launch has kept their audience wondering. Why a new iPad Pro but with very little changes and price cuts? For now, the simple answer is, "why not?".

As the whole world knows, Apple has released at least an approximate of a dozen iPad variants so far, with most of them targeting a different price segment. Among those popular with the buyers, the current generation iPad (2017) and also the 9.7-inch and the 12.9-inch variants, with the iPad Air 2 and the mini 4, are sold quicker than the others. Going to the hardware specifications on Apple's website, the iPad 2017 edition has replaced the obsolete iPad Air 2.

The new edition of iPad for 2017 only differs in core components inside when compared to the iPad Pro 9.7-inch tablet which is why the former is offered at a cheaper price. The major differences lie in the display segment where the new iPad 2017 doesn't come with an anti-reflective coating, true-tone display, and even a wide color gamut. An older Apple A9 chip is equipped on the tablet with no compatibility for their Apple pencil or the smart keyboard. As a report from the Apple Insider notes, compromise in features might not really justify a price difference of $270 for the new iPad 2017.

Going to the camera segment, the iPad 2017 has been compromised to an extent, with the new tablet coming out with an 8MP camera compared to the iPad Pro that comes with a 12MP sensor. Live photos are not existent on the new iPad with no presence of the Retina flash too. With the disappearance of the smart connector, Apple has certainly compromised some primary features to achieve the pricing.
