"Yuri On Ice" was one of the most anticipated anime in 2016. Now, it seems "Yuri On Ice" Season 2 will follow the success of its maiden season after revealing that Victor wants to simultaneously train Yuri and make his comeback. That said, competition is bound to heat up.
The maiden season of "Yuri On Ice," the hit figure-skating-inspired manga-turned-anime, has met tremendous success. HNGN reports that speculations regarding "Yuri On Ice" Season 2 have gone up after the final episode of season 1 aired last December 2016.
The main plot of "Yuri On Ice" revolves around Yuri Katsuki and his quest to become the best figure skater in the world. After intense training with Victor Nikiforov, Yuri finished second overall in the Grand Prix Finals, a competition fans hope Yuri would win in "Yuri On Ice" Season 2.
Adding tension to the already emotionally charged scenes, Victor reveals that he is contemplating about making a comeback to competitive figure skating. However, Yuri asks Victor to coach him for another year, thus creating a major plot point in "Yuri On Ice" Season 2.
As reported by Inquisitr, Victor claims that he wants to compete again while simultaneously coaching Yuri. That said, fans can expect that "Yuri On Ice" Season 2 would be full of surprises. From the relationship standpoint between Yuri and Victor to the possible competition between a living legend and an up-and-coming talent, "Yuri On Ice" Season 2 will not be lacking drama.
There has been no confirmation of the exact air date of "Yuri On Ice" Season 2. However, fans are speculating that Season 2 will premiere sometime in October 2017 since season 1 was also launched in the same month last year.
So how does a figure-skating-themed anime manage to compete against the successful action or combat-themed anime such as "Naruto Shippuden," "One Piece," and Dragon Ball Z?" "Yuri On Ice" is expected to be as fierce as those anime mentioned above. Think of it as a sword-fight conducted in ballet shoes: not as pretty aesthetically, but as gripping a fight one can witness.
After all the gloom and doom of the current crop of top rated anime, "Yuri On Ice," a series not hell-bent on violence surprisingly stands out. While it is true that combat-themed adventures are lording it on the ratings, the first season of "Yuri On Ice" defies the stereotype Japanese anime by offering a well written, cleverly executed drama that captured the imaginations of millions. And judging by the amount of chatter regarding its sequel, it seems that "Yuri On Ice" Season 2 is also destined for success.
