HTC first unveiled the U Ultra back in January, revealing to fans that a sapphire version would be able to be bought later. HTC recently revealed its 'unexpected surprise' which turns out far from the word 'unexpected' as they announced the HTC U Ultra Limited Edition.
HTC U Ultra Limited Edition will have a solid strong sapphire-coated panel and carry a 128GB internal storage. Besides the new screen, everything is almost exactly the same as the original internally.
According to Androidcentral, HTC U Ultra Limited Edition is available to pre-order right now in Taiwan with four color options, including blue, black, white, and pink. The device is priced at $945 (NT$28,900) for the 128GB premium variant.
HTC U Ultra Limited Edition differs only in the glass panel on the front and the internal storage capacity. The Limited edition employs the sapphire while the original uses the usual Gorilla Glass and instead of 64GB internal storage, buyers get the 128GB variant.
Customers who pre-order the 128GB variant will also receive a $100 bundle which includes free leather flip case, a key ring, a Quick Charge 3.0 power bank, and limited edition packaging. Technobuffalo reports that to get the HTC U Ultra Limited Edition with sapphire glass, additional storage, and the free bonuses, buyers need to pay about $150/$170 more than the original but offers exactly the same specs & features.
HTC U Ultra Limited Edition could be Taiwan Exclusive as no words from HTC Company whether or not this android handset will be made available in other international markets. This is just another reason why HTC's 'unexpected surprise' announcement doesn't go that well.
Just to recap the specs and features, HTC U Ultra Limited Edition still sports the same hybrid dual-SIM (Nano) and runs on Android 7.0 Nougat system with Sense UI customization on top. The Smartphone measures a 5.7-inch QHD (1440x2560 pixels) display screen, apart from a secondary 2-inch display panel with 1040x160 pixels resolution.
HTC U Ultra Limited Edition is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM, featuring an expandable storage via microSD card (up to 2TB). The device comes with a 12-UltraPixel rear camera and a 16-megapixel selfie camera with an UltraPixel mode and a BSI sensor.
The specifications of the HTC U Ultra Limited Edition are the same as the original, supporting 4G LTE with VoLTE, GPS/ 1-GPS, and Bluetooth v4.2. This android handset also carries NFC, DLNA, and Miracast.
The phone also provides HTC Connect and USB 3.1 Type-C connectivity options. Furthermore, HTC U Ultra Limited Edition bears a fingerprint sensor on the Home Button, fueled by a 3000 mAh battery capacity with Quick Charge 3.0, as reported by NDTV.
