Microsoft Surface Pro Latest Update: New ‘Mac To Surface Assistant’ Migration Tool Raises Stakes On Apple

Mar 22, 2017 07:52 AM EDT

Mac owners who want to make the big shift to Microsoft finally have one less thing to worry about with the “Mac to Surface Assistant.” One of the concerns is migrating and transferring files but the new tool should address all that. Microsoft has quietly made the tool available but a larger announcement should be made soon.

Regardless, the existence of the Microsoft “Mac To Surface Assistant” addresses concerns of people contemplating a shift from the Mac to the Microsoft Surface Pro circle, Windows Central reported. The Redmond company has so far created an impression with its all-in-one solution despite the steep price of getting one. Aside from the pricing standpoint, the Microsoft Surface Pro series have more than made up for it with a more powerful performance.

Jumping from a macOS to a Windows 10 platform has been made easy with the “Mac to Surface Assistant.” It features a typical software wizard design where users are only required to check the necessary folders they want to move.

Once all is set, all that is left is to get a device to store the files set for migration. A USB drive could be enough, depending on how large the files one has. If not, a higher-capacity external drive could be best though it could require extended time, Slash Gear reported. The tool can also format the drive without using the Disk Utility.

It may not be big news now though things may change once the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 comes out in the open. There is no official word on when this would be though most are hoping for it to come this 2017. It remains to be seen if this will be a concern for Apple. They are expected to introduce a new iPad Pro and possibly a revamped edition of the MacBook Pro with Intel Kaby Lake this year. Unless both impress consumers, the tool could be a key to consumers shifting brands and operating systems.
