‘The Last Of Us 2’ Update: New Trailer May Have Hinted At Joel's Death Due To His 'Clean' Look

The release of a new trailer for the survival horror video game “The Last of Us 2” led fans to speculate that Joel, the hero of the original game, died. Their suspicions were aroused when the trailer showed a very clean Joel. This new image drastically differs from the blood-covered look and soiled clothes that Joel had in “The Last of Us.”

Besides the clean look, gamers also noticed that in the trailer for “The Last of Us 2,” Joel had not aged even if the time gap is five years after the final event in the original game, according to developers during a panel discussion at PlayStation Experience 2016. Although director Neil Druckmann said at the discussion that the upcoming game would be all about hate, the sequel’s plot is still unclear and players are not sure who the main characters would be.

Games Radar reports that besides concluding that Joel could be dead in “The Last of US 2,” fans also believe that Ellie could be hallucinating. The theory came from Joel’s appearance in which he seems to be walking out of the light similar to an apparition. Ellie, on the other hand, seems like she killed a house full of people. Naughty Dog, the developer of the game, however, is known for deliberately misleading people with its trailer.

The speculated death of Joel in “The Last of Us 2” is because of a theory he committed suicide which explains why he was holding a weapon. However, the theory that Ellie is dead is debunked by the developer that she is the playable character in the game. But when the game was discussed, Naughty Dog says both Joel and Ellie are returning, Polygon notes.

However, Game Rant points out that in the trailer for “The Last of Us 2,” Joel asked Ellie if she would really go through with it. He used the word “you” instead of “we,” which adds to the speculation about Joel’s death.
