The long-rumored digital assistant is finally launched by Samsung. It is a smart step for the company to unveil its digital assistant prior to the big launch of Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. In a lengthy blog post, InJong Rhee the company's head of R&D for Software and Services described how Bixby differentiates from other digital assistants.
The Samsung executive continued to explain the characteristics of company's latest digital assistant Bixby. In the blog post, he stated that Bixby will have to stand out from other artificial intelligent based assistants. The three main factors including context awareness, completeness, and cognitive tolerance will separate it from the rest of the artificially intelligent.
While referring to context awareness, he explained that Bixby will understand the current state of the app and will be able to jump in to assist the user at any point. Besides, the system can also understand touch inputs and voice commands. In short, it will understand to start a task through touch or to complete said task with a voice command.
Cognitive tolerance means it will be able to work with incomplete information or commands by the users. It will encourage users for additional input when it needed. While completeness refers to the ability of the assistant to complete a multitude of tasks, it means almost anything the users can do through touch, voice. Bixby will be able to do as well.
The only goal of creating this innovative technology is to prevent the unpredictability for users and to make their lives easier and simpler. In an interview with The Verge, InJong Rhee stated that "Bixby is an intelligent user interface which emphasis on interface." This can also be considered as an alternative to the device's main UI.
Furthermore, he explained that it is not just a glorified search engine alternative that returns facts to the users which are based on precise questions. Well, it seems like Bixby is going to give a tough competition to Siri and Google AI. Stay tuned to Droid Reports to know more.
