The evolution items that are required to evolve certain Pokémon after Gen 2 Pokémon were added into "Pokémon GO" seems to continue haunting trainers because of their extremely rare existence. Multiple trials and methods tested by players revealed that the evolution items drop rates from the PokéStop are around 0.15% (roughly 0.03% per item).
However, a new theory originated from Reddit - made possible by a number of "Pokémon GO" trainers who work together to decode the game, suggest that the evolution items drops at the same time of day. For example, if a player found King's Rock at 10.00 AM, the players will have a higher chance of getting the next evolution items at exactly 10.00 AM. This could be done at different PokéStop, not necessarily have to be the one that was previously visited before.
It is not confirmed yet if this theory is reliable. According to Pokemon GO Hub, they are currently investigating and will report back "soon" with their findings. Pokémon GO Hub is the biggest "Pokémon GO" news site, publishing hundreds of articles, guides, and researches every month.
There are 5 evolution items available in "Pokémon GO" - Dragon Scale, King's Rock, Metal Coat, Sun Stone and Upgrade, which are required to evolve 8 specific Pokémon - Seadra, Poliwhirl, Slowpoke, Onix, Scyther, Gloom, Sunkern, and Porygon. Before the Gen.2 update, some of these Pokémon has no further evolution, such as Onix and Scyther.
The "Pokémon GO" evolution items also brought another new, alternative evolution to the previously complete 3-staged-evolution Pokémon such as Poliwag (evolves to Poliwhril and then Poliwrath) and Oddish (evolves to Gloom and then Vileplume). With the evolution items, Poliwhirl will evolve into Politoed instead of Poliwrath if equipped with King's Rock, whereas Gloom will evolve into Bellosom instead of Vileplume if assigned with Sun Stone.
The new concept did not apply to Eevee, for some reason, prior to the Gen 2 update of "Pokémon GO". If done correctly, all three evolutions of Eevee are supposed to be linked to the evolution items as well, since it is known by Pokémon fans that in order to get Jolteon, Vaporeon, and Flareon, trainers will need to attach Eevee with specific stones (Thunder Stone, Water Stone, Fire Stone). Other Pokémon such as Pikachu and Staryu are also supposedly needed a specific stone before able to evolve into Raichu and Starmie.
