‘Evolve’ & ‘Heavy Weapon’ Now Free For Xbox Live Gold Members

Mar 17, 2017 05:52 AM EDT

With March now midway, two games were added for free download for Xbox Live Gold members. Xbox One and Xbox 360 members could download “Evolve” from March 16 through April 15, while “Heavy Weapon” is downloadable for free for a shorter period of time from March 16 through 31 only. “Layers of Fear” is still available for downloading until March 31, while “Project Cars” and “Borderlands 2” were taken off the March 2017 Games lineup.

Backwards Compatibility Program

“Evolve,” a 4vi monster-hunting game, is free on Xbox One for Xbox Live Gold members, “Heavy Weapon,” a shoot-em-up game, is free on Xbox 360. But because “Heavy Weapon” has Backwards Compatibility, Xbox One owners could also play the game, GameSpot reports.

Because of the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program, owners of the console who are Xbox Live Gold members could also download for free this March “Luxor 2,” “Meatballs in Babo: Invasion,” “Poker Smash” and “Street Fighter IV,” according to Larry Hryb of Xbox. Among the four games, “Street Fighter IV” is the biggest game with more than 13,000 fan votes for its official inclusion in the Backwards Compatibility program of Microsoft, Express reports.

Bonus Game

Besides those four games, the program also added as a bonus “Borderlands 2” made available for free download for Xbox Live Gold members under the Backwards Compatibility program. Under the program, owners of “Borderlands 2” or any other games included in the Backwards Compatibility program would be able to insert their old disc and begin playing the game right away. It also applies to owners of digital version of the game who could download “Borderlands 2” from the dashboard’s Games and Apps section.

By next week, Microsoft is expected to announce the free Xbox games for Xbox Live Gold members for April 2017. However, Sony has beaten Microsoft in revealing its April games under its PS Plus Games ahead of schedule. Beginning April 4, “Drawn to Death” would be available for free download. “Drawn to Death” is a third-person shooter/brawler game which takes place inside the pages of a High School student’s notebook.
