Android Nougat Update is Already Rolling Out for Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge in Canada

Mar 15, 2017 11:15 AM EDT

Android Nougat update has been pushed by several Canadian carriers to Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge units on their networks. One of the country's largest carriers Rogers still hasn't released Nougat, though. Rogers's has scheduled the roll out the update on March 20.

However, a number of major Canadian carriers have started seeding the Android 7.0 Nougat update to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones already. Said smartphone owners in Canada on SaskTel, Bell, Virgin Mobile, EastLink, Wind Mobile and Freedom Mobile are now receiving the Nougat update, as per Sam Mobile.

The update is there with the firmware version G935W8VLU2BQB6 for the Galaxy S7 edge (SM-G935W8) and G930W8VLU2BQB6 for the Galaxy S7 (SM-G930W8). Both the updates are Over The Air (OTA)

The Nougat Update weighs around 1.3GB, according to GSM Arena. Before starting the update users will have to ensure that they have battery since it is a major update, it might take a few minutes for the update. You are also advised to have a good Wi-Fi network before starting the download and installation process

The OTA update will most likely take a few days to arrive on all units, as major updates are rolled out in phases, with the initial seeding being limited to a smaller number of units. As soon as your device is going to get the update you are going to see an automatic update notification pop up on your Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge. If you do not see any such notification then you can also check for the update manually by going over to Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check for Updates.

Of the few names missing from the list, one is Rogers. The carrier, in case you missed, recently updated its OS upgrade schedule to reflect that the update will start rolling March 20 onwards.
