4 Useful Tips & Tricks for Apple's iPhone 'Phone' App in iOS 10

Apple's iPhone has indeed changed the world of smartphones since its introduction by Steve Job back on June 29, 2007. iPhone has gone into numerous changes and evolution since then but one thing remained the same - the Phone app.

The latest iOS 10 added some new features to this app which includes voicemail transcription and the option to save the voicemails. If you are using iPhone, here are the four tips that will help you to get the most out of the Phone app in iOS 10.

How to Save Voicemail

Before iOS 10, you will be required to use a Mac and some questionable utility app to do so. Apple has made this task simpler, and extremely easy in iOS 10. To begin, select the Voicemail tab from the Phone app, choose a voicemail and then select the Share button that appears beside the voicemail. This will prompt an option on how you would like to share the audio file. Proceed with the compatible apps to share the audio file, or you can AirDrop the file into another Apple devices for safekeeping. You could also select Add to iCloud Drive to send it to your iCloud storage. The audio file will be in m4a format.  

How to rank voicemail transcriptions in iOS 10

The iOS 10 includes the new API which allows speech-to-text transcribing. Whenever you receive a new voicemail, iOS 10 will work from the background to transcribing it. Tap a voicemail to display the transcription. The transcription could be inaccurate, just like Siri, but Apple allows you to rank the voicemail transcription for their future reference. Tap a voicemail to bring up the transcription and then locate the two blue buttons at the button for the transcription. Select either "helpful" or "not helpful".

Redial Number With Ease

If someone is already in your contacts, or if you have not cleared the called list history, redialing is easy. There are two ways to do so. First is by using Siri. Tell Siri "redial the last number" and Siri will do the job for you. You may also do this without Siri. Tap once on the green Call button to place the last dialed number onto the text field. Tap again to place the call.

Set a Custom Vibration Pattern based on Caller

This extremely useful function allows you to recognize the caller identity when your iPhone is in silent mode, without looking at the screen. To begin, open the Phone app and navigate to the Contacts tab. Choose a contact that you would like to customize. Select Ringtone, Vibration and Create New Vibration. Tap on the screen to create the vibration pattern. Then save after you have finished recording. This custom vibration will be used whenever the selected contact calls your iPhone.
