Apple patrons are still wondering if the company has any plans to release the updated version of Apple Watch 2, i.e. Apple Watch 3. There are many rumors circulation online related to price, specs, and availability of the said device. However recent report hits at the autumn 2017 launch for the Watch 3.
Apple Watch has always been a top seller, even when Google's partners have launched plenty of Android Wear smartwatches over the years. With the 'Series' naming scheme differentiating the two current models, the next upcoming wearable could well be called the Apple Watch Series, according to PC Advisor.
A report by Taiwan-based DigiTimes claims that the Apple Watch 3 will be coming in the second half of 2017. The information to publication comes from a leak which says manufacturing is already starting to ramp up, specifically for the screen for the forthcoming wearable. DigiTimes also confirmed that the third-gen Appl Watch will reportedly be featuring a glass-film touchscreen, rather than the 'touch-on-lens' screen used by the Series 2.
It would also appear that the touch-on-lens screens are very difficult, and therefore costly, to produce and yields haven't been as good as the manufacturer, TPK Holding had hoped. Rumour has it that the upcoming wearable will use a thin glass panel covered in a heavy-duty, scratch-resistant film laminate, moreover that it will be manufactured by a different company.
Tech Radar notes that with regard to its screen, nobody expects the size or shape of such to change, so fans should expect another square 1.65-inch display for Apple Watch 3. It is also highly possible that it will still be OLED since rumor has it that Apple will be adapting that technology for its next projects. Watch 3 could also boast Micro-LED panels.
The Chinese Economic Daily News website has reported that Apple has once more given the manufacturing contract of Apple Watch 3 to Taiwan-based Quanta, which has assembled all of Apple's smart watches so far. The website mentioned that we can expect a launch in the autumn of 2017.
If this is to believe then we expect the Apple Watch 3 release date to fall around September 2017. This would also make sense as this would be a year after the Apple Watch Series 2, which was revealed on 7 September 2016.
