The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 will include another layer of security feature - facial recognition, according to a new report. The decision was made after the rumors emerge that Samsung's long-time rival Apple will be replacing its fingerprint scanner with a facial scanner on its upcoming iPhone 8, which is speculated to be released in September this year.
According to Samsung spokesperson, facial recognition will take less than 0.01 to unlock the phone, and the new function was added not only to enhance the device security but also due to some limits of iris scanning such as speed and accuracy. The Korea-based tech company is also said to already on the track of testing the prototypes, The Investor explained.
There were reports earlier that said Samsung will unveil their next flagship phone on April 21 but based on this new report, it seems like Samsung will most likely delay the launching and move it to April 28. However, KGI securities said that Samsung is still on track for the April 21 release. There will be two variants of Samsung S8 - the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ reported Ubergizmo.
The never-ending stream of leaks of Samsung's new flagship is pretty much an open book now, as Samsung has taken a considerable amount of time to bounce back after its recent flagship phone Samsung Galaxy Note 7 turned into a disaster - caused by the explosive battery. Samsung Galaxy S8 will operate in the latest Android version Nougat and will be the first Android phone to ever feature a full display screen covering its front body.
Recent leaks suggest that with such a drastic change, the physical button which acts as fingerprint scanner will be removed and the fingerprint sensor will move to its rear side, a similar style implemented by some of the Android phones that are already in the market today. Fans who are eagerly awaiting Samsung Galaxy S8 will have to wait until the end of March for the official announcement by Samsung.
