MacBook Air 2017 News: MacBook Air Price Drop Hints at Near Launch

Mar 13, 2017 12:17 PM EDT

Apple has blessed its fans with a new MacBook Pro in 2016 but leaves off from refreshing their famous MacBook Air lineup. However, a price decrease from Best Buy for the MacBook Air may indicate that a new model is coming soon.

According to MacWorld, Best Buy has discounted their price for the MacBook Air in February. The US retailer has dropped the price for the cheapest MacBook Air to just $800. Usually, a decrease in price suggests that a newer model will be arriving, which is MacBook Air 2017. Retailers generally want to clear all their old stock before the new stock comes into the market. And while this could very well be the case, it is also probable that it has nothing to do with a new model being introduced at all.

Rumors have been running uncontrolled that Apple may discontinue the MacBook Air lineup in total. The previous year, the Cupertino-based has released the new MacBook Pro 2016, and all the MacBook Air got was a RAM update for its 13-inch variants. If new MacBook Air 2017 will arrive then we can expect more updated features in it.

During Apple's October event in 2016, the company has also debuted the new MacBook Pro and even compared it to the MacBook Air. It was revealed that the MacBook Pro 2016 was slimmer and smaller than the MacBook Air that has resulted in speculations that the latter would be axed entirely, as reported by Ecumenical News.  After all, the MacBook Air was always known for being thinner and lighter.

However, some people are still remaining optimistic about the possibility of a new MacBook Air 2017 coming this year. It is expected that the device will sport Intel's Kaby Lake processor, a USB Type-C port, and an Apple Pencil-supported trackpad. MacBook Air 2017 will also be having a Touch ID with Force Touch and possibly a Retina display. There is also a possibility of having an E-ink keyboard in the MacBook Air 2017.

Rumors are suggesting that new MacBook Air 2017 could be seen between March and May of this year. Nevertheless, since these speculations have not been confirmed yet, readers are advised to take this news with a grain of salt.
