2012 Nissan Versa Model Massive Recall Due To Faulty Airbag Problem

Nissan recalls over 54,000 cars of 2012 Nissan Versa Model due to an airbag issue. The car company gave attention to its curtain and seat-mounted airbags that may deploy when the car doors slammed.

Last October 2016, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation due to the several complaints from 2012 Nissan Versa Model owners. The incident described as the passenger of the car closed the passenger's side door and the airbag easily deployed. However, there are no accidents or physical injuries reported from the car owners.

Nissan North America explained that the degradation of side impact sensor connecting pins might be the cause of the unexpected deployment of the airbags of 2012 Nissan Versa Model. Wrong metals used in the sensor connector harness can cause oxidation on the pins that hinder the communication between satellite sensor and airbag control unit.

2012 Nissan Versa Model curtain and seat-mounted side airbag's system will have a backup mode that allows the airbag to deploy unexpectedly when the signal loss occurs. This backup mode changes the requirements of the airbags to deploy. A simple slamming door can activate the airbags.

This problem could lead accidents and physical injuries of the Versa owners, which is why the company decided to recall 2012 Nissan Versa Model to do the inspection. However, there are still no announcements for the recalling the model but the car company assures the Versa owners to prevent car accidents.

According to CBS12, in order for the Nissan to resolve the issue, the company will install new jumper harness that contained tin-plated connection terminals to 2012 Nissan Versa Model. Together with this is the replacement of side impact sensors free of charge.

Nissan car company urges all the concerned owners of 2012 Nissan Versa Model to contact the Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. On the other hand, they can call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or just visit www.safecar.gov.
