A rumor coming from a self-claimed former employee of a Microsoft contractor has suggested that Windows' Surface Phone's release date will be delayed until 2019. Instead, rumors said that the company will be focusing on making another phone that would be released this year.

Reddit user zombieacc said that Windows will be releasing a new Windows Phone this year and it is not going to be the much-awaited Surface Phone. He said that the phone would have a release date around late 2018 or early 2019, according to an article in Windows Report.

"About the Surface Phone: Nobody knows what they are working on right now, but they don't seem to be giving up. I don't know why Microsoft doesn't communicate anything about Windows 10 Mobile. Seems to be part of some strategy and so far everything Nadella touched has worked out very good for Microsoft," zombieacc posted on Reddit.

"Some special phone-pc-like Windows 10 ARM device will probably arrive in late 2018 or 2019. I have no more info on that, but I think Windows 10 ARM (or Surface Phone) is much further away than some of us hope," the user added.

With this rumor, it contradicts previous reports that the Surface Phone will finally hit the shelves this year. Previous reports like the one from The Verge said that the smartphone might have the same release date with Redstone 3 which is expected this fall. On the other hand, rumors also said that the Redstone 2 would also launch not just the Surface Phone but also other Surface devices this April.
