Third Party Apps Cause Termination Of ‘Pokemon GO’ Accounts

Mar 09, 2017 08:10 AM EST

“Pokemon GO” account holder have been receiving emails from Niantic Labs informing them that their accounts have been terminated because of use of third-party apps. The use of these apps is considered cheating by Niantic. The email cites some of the third-party apps which caused the account termination.

Recourse For Terminated Accounts. These include scripps app, applications to falsify location, emulators, unofficial or modified software and accessing in an unauthorized manner clients of “Pokemon GO” or backends. Account holders who believe their accounts were mistakenly terminated must fill out a form. However, unless Niantic Labs replies to their appeal, the account is deemed permanently terminated, Games Radar reports.

Pokemon GO Hub explains that the cause of the warnings were several third-party IV checkers and trackers. Most were old applications needed to access accounts of the popular game with both PTC and Google logins affected. Although the website failed to confirm or deny the claims that users of IV GO and similar overlay-based IV checkers were the cause of the termination, “Pokemon GO” players who stopped using the trackers and old login-based IV checker were advised not to panic.

Silph Road Discussions. Epic Stream notes there is no official announcement from Niantic Labs through the developer’s official website of the account termination of “Pokemon GO” players, it is a hot topic at The Silph Road on Reddit. Silph Road moderators and users confirm another message circulating warning players of account termination if they continue using the third-party apps is real. The message strongly recommends changing the password if the gamers sign in through PTC or to ensure no unwanted third-party apps have the authorization to use their Google accounts.

The warning does not discount the possibility that the “Pokemon GO” player authorized a third-party app during the early days of the game and it is using the account for nefarious purposes. Stay tuned for more "Pokemon GO" news and updates!
