'Tokyo Ghoul' Season 3 Latest News: Exec Reveals Third Season's Biggest Surprise?

Mar 07, 2017 08:26 AM EST

Not one but two of the biggest surprises are slated to happen this year. Well, at least to the ever-patient fans of "One-Punch Man" and the much-loved dark anime "Tokyo Ghoul".

Comic Book reports that fans of "Tokyo Ghoul" may no longer have to wait for that long as the anime's third season is definitely on its way. "Nothing that's been recently released, but One-Punch Man is coming back on with season two. There's going to be another season of Tokyo Ghoul coming shortly. Later in the year, those would be the bigger releases on the anime side." Viz Media's senior director of sales and marketing Kevin Hamric has shared during an interview.

Hamric's confirmation is a breath of fresh air among the fans of the anime for an obvious state they have suffered for months. "Tokyo Ghoul'" third season has been teased numerously to the point that it was speculated that it was going to be canceled. Back in 2015, Funimation has hinted that the show's third season was slated to be aired in 2016. Meanwhile, the fans have only received a new mobile game thereafter with no anime whatsoever.

On the other hand, news outlet Oppstrend has another story. Accordingly, Hamric's statements have most likely been misinterpreted, indicating that the executive did not even provide a release date for the much-awaited anime. Also, it noted that the fans may have come to the wrong conclusion that "Tokyo Ghoul" Season 3 would be included in the company's summer releases. It then added that Viz Media itself has refuted these speculations.

The same outlet has shared that Viz Media noted that Hamric's statements may have been misunderstood and that "Tokyo Ghoul" Season 3 is, in fact, not yet scheduled. While this information has been quite disconcerting for the fans, the truth remains that the dark anime is surely about to be released anytime soon.
