Nintendo Switch Launch Updates: How To Set Up And Start Playing Games Solo Or With Friends

Mar 06, 2017 05:21 AM EST

The Nintendo Switch officially launched on Mar. 3, after it was first introduced in October 2016. The hybrid console works with a docking station to function as a home console, as well as a mobile device. Here are some tips on how to setup and troubleshoot the new product.

According to Quartz, setting up the Nintendo Switch will first require players to slid the two Joy-Cons into place. These are found on the sides of the tablet. Take the black docking station and open the back panel. Next, plug the HDMI and power cables into their respective ports. Turn the Switch tablet on then go through the setup questions. Connect to the internet and install the necessary updates.

Users can also set up parental controls, which can be found in Settings. The Nintendo Switch TV mode will require users to insert the tablet into the docking station. The Switch will automatically appear if the proper source is selected on the TV. Players can download games from eShop, the Nintendo digital store, by tapping on the orange bag icon on the home screen.

There are three ways to play the Nintendo Switch. The first is via TV connection, which simply requires players to insert the tablet into the dock and pull out the controllers. The controllers can also be placed into the ergonomic holder, but the Joy-Cons have to be taken out of the holder for games that use accelerometers. The second approach involves using the Nintendo Switch as a handheld device. The two Joy-Cons have to be placed on both sides. Users can use the touchscreen for writing purposes. The hybrid console can also be used as a small multiplayer console. There is a kickstand on the back of the tablet to hold it up. Pull out the Joy-Cons and enjoy games with friends.

Based on an IGN report, two or more Nintendo Switch consoles can also be paired together by multiple owners to play the same game. To link to the internet, players can use a LAN to USB adapter to set up a hardwired web connection on the Switch dock. Plug the USB into one of the ports and the Switch will automatically recognize the connection. Currently, save files for Switch games cannot be transferred from the main storage, but may only be deleted. The Nintendo Switch is available now at $300.
