Motorola's next series of Moto Mods reportedly transforms the user's phone into a gamepad. Motorola will use the Amazon Alexa to feature a new smartphone mod, as well as unveil several hardware add-ons for compatible Motorola handsets. Leaked concepts showed a unique gamepad and more special devices.

Based on a report by CNet, Motorola is preparing to showcase a gamepad that houses four speakers and lights. It also comes with preloaded games. This is the most aggressive new mod inspired by the portable and home gaming console, Nintendo Switch. The Moto Z setup allows the device to be easily snapped on, providing users with a quick gaming experience that costs much less than the Nintendo Switch.

Five new snap-on Moto Mods accessories were announced for the Moto Z line of phones. The company previously stated that they will launch 12 new Mods in 2017, and will allegedly work with various developers to establish an entire environment of Mods. Aside from the gamepad, Motorola is set to launch a new power pack in March, which will arrive in various colors. A new charging adaptor can be attached to the back of any Mod to charge the device.

Upcoming Moto Mods also include a wireless charger with a glass design that recharges any Moto Z phone. There is a portable turbocharger that provides up to eight hours of power to any Moto Z battery in only 15 minutes. The five new devices apparently focused on the extra mobile functionality of the handsets.

Aside from the five confirmed Moto Mods, Motorola is also working on more future models. The concept designs revealed a photo printer, more add-ons that change the Moto Z into a type of Lego Mindstorms robot, a mod that allows additional SIM cards and a tablet with speakers. The new mod may allow up to four different SIM cards. There may also be a VR headset, an interactive LED cover with custom animations and a mod tower to keep and charge various mods.

As for the Amazon Alexa, the online shopping site is said to be developing a kind of Moto Mod that will offer support to the Moto Z, writes The Verge. Considering how Motorola is working to create a network of devices, Alexa may be the technology that links everything together, thereby creating an "Internet of Things." The prices and launch dates have yet to be announced. More updates and details are expected to follow.
