Amazon Extends $250 Deals For PlayStation 4 & Xbox One

Sony and Microsoft dropped the price of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, respectively, to $250 for a limited period. The sale was supposed to end on Feb. 25.

However, GameSpot reports that even if it is past Feb. 25, Amazon still sells the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for $250. The lowest-price deal which matches hefty discounts on Black Friday could be found on the Amazon product pages for the PlayStation 4 Uncharted 4, Xbox One Battlefield 1 and Xbox One Minecraft.

Discount Still Available

The gaming website says Amazon has not given any indication when would the discounts end. However, it advises players who may want to own either a PlayStation 4 or an Xbox One to immediately order before stock runs out or Amazon ends the substantial price cut.

Ubergizmo notes that it was Sony which initiated the price war when it reduced the price of its PlayStation 4 a week ago. Microsoft immediately followed and matched the discount price of the Sony game console for its Xbox One.

Price War

Both game console makers released in 2013 the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, the PS4 was cheaper by $100 so more units of the Sony console were sold. The Xbox One, however, included a Kinect sensor, but Microsoft eventually removed it from the bundle and matched Sony’s price although it failed to catch up with the early lead on sales volume made by the PS4.

Microsoft saw the $250 price cut an opportunity to also push its more expensive Xbox One bundles by discounting it by $50. Besides Amazon, it was sold at Microsoft stores and participating retailers. According to Mike Nichols, Xbox Marketing corporate vice president, because of continued support of gamers for the Xbox, in January, the company logged a 21 percent year-on-year growth and was its best January to date. In December, the two consoles had neck-and-neck sales with PlayStation 4 barely beating Xbox One, Neowin reports.
