Lenovo at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2017 (MWC) announced that its Moto Mods are still alive and also showcased an unusual Alexa Moto Mod as well. The indeed focus was on the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus.
Moto G's 5th generation smartphones will be available globally starting March. The launched Moto G5 will be priced at Euro 199 (INR 14,000) and the Moto G5 plus at Euro 279 (INR 19,000). The 5-inch G5 will be priced at £169 (16GB, 2GB RAM) and £179 (16GB, 3GB RAM) in the UK. The somewhat larger 5.2-inch G5 Plus will cost $245 and AU$399 (16GB), AU$449 (32GB). While the UK price for the G5 is around $210, the phone will not officially be released stateside.
The Moto G5 boasts a 5-inch Full HD LCD display while the Moto G5 Plus has a bigger 5.2-inch Full HD LCD display. Moto G5 will be available in two colors which are Lunar Gray and Fine Gold.
Inside of Moto G5, you will be getting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset. However, the Moto G5 Plus will be having a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 which is known for delivering great battery life, as per the Firstpost.
The Moto G5 is available with combination of 2GB/4GB RAM in 16GB or 32GB variants with microSD card support for cards of up to 128GB. The Moto G5 Plus also available with 4GB RAM gets an upgrade here with the base storage at 32GB and the second option being a 64GB model, both are comes with expandable storage.
On the camera front is mostly the same with a 13MP f/2.0 unit with PDAF on the back and 5MP front facing camera. The Moto G5 Plus gets a slightly better 12MP f/1.7 aperature unit with dual focus pixels. The Moto G5 can record Full HD video while the Moto G5 Plus gets 4K recording. There will be NFC, Bluetooth, WI-Fi, and dual SIM slots connectivity options coming for both phones.
The Moto G5 gets a removable 2,800mAh battery while the G5 Plus model gets a 3,000mAh battery. In both Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus the software, bits include Android 7.0 Nougat with the usual Moto customisations along with integrated Google Assistant when they arrive in March.
Meanwhile, Lenovo has also announced new Moto Mods add-on for its Moto Z, Z Play and Z Force phones. Previous Mods had added a projector, a powerful speaker and also a tremendous zoom camera to the Moto Z lineup.
CNET Notes that, the new Mods add wireless charging to the Moto Z, while another adds quick charging. For Alexa fans, Amazon will be releasing a Mod with Alexa capabilities later this year. The company also showcased a new charging adapter and also introduced was a Moto Mod for wireless charging. As expected, it sports a glass design and coupled with a turbo charger that will give you enough juice to get through a day in just 15 minutes.
Lastly, there was also a new Gamepad showcased at MWC 2017. The mod fits on to the back and apart from functioning as a controller also adds some storage and four speakers.
