If there is one thing that made Apple iPhones stand out of its other competitor is its innovative and iconic home button. However, users could bid goodbye to it because it was decided that iPhone 8 would lose this feature.
The iPhone home button, which is considered as the basis of home button by other smartphones including Android smartphones, will not be featured on iPhone 8, renowned Apply analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has confirmed. Instead, iPhone 8 will feature a new function area at the bottom of the display.
Kuo said that Apple has decided to integrate the "function" space on the screen since there is the device's bezel-less design, which the previous iPhones were not able to do before. Kuo got this information in a note to investors AppleInsider got.
The function area, which is mainly composed of virtual buttons, will replace the home button. Just like the same to virtual onscreen buttons, the feature could be dynamic and adaptive for the users.
iPhone 8, which is also dubbed as iPhone X, is expected to have a 5.8-inch energy-efficient high-resolution OLED screen but will have a usable surface area of only 5.15-inches. The rest of the screen is expected to be used for the function area.
This is not the only new feature for the upcoming and anticipated Apple phone. New features expected also include a bigger battery and wireless charging and earphones.
Kuo said that he believes that the iPhone 8 "will incorporate new bio-recognition assets to take over device security and Apple Pay authentication duties" Other rumors suggest that Apple has been thinking the idea of having curved OLED screens for the 2017 iteration of the iPhone. Another rumor is that Apple will use 3D sensing technology for embedding display and fingerprints purpose.
