Microsoft Takes A Page Out Of Apple's Book And Runs With It Through AppComparison For Android

Just when you thought that Apple had the monopoly on trying to convince Android users to switch to iOS, Microsoft does the same move with a new app, known as AppComparison. This app sets up a review of a user’s Android app inventory, and shows them the equivalents and alternatives on Windows 10 Mobile.

In the last quarter, Microsoft was reportedly ramping up on their efforts to refresh their mobile line, and MS executives, including Satya Nadella, have assured the public that the company will not abandon Nokia. With this news, it is clear that Microsoft is making good on its statements that by 2016, the Nokia line will see more developments, updates, and activity.

The AppComparison app seems like more proactive than the Move to iOS app. However, while the Move to iOS just allows a user to transfer data from an Android to an iDevice seamlessly, AppComparison lets a user weigh their choices through spotting their favorite apps or their equivalents. For users about to switch from Android to a Lumia or another Windows 10 device, this helps them weigh their switch to see if it’s a truly sound decision.

Availability of apps on a certain platform is very crucial to a smartphone user’s decision. After all, the death of apps is what caused Blackberry’s decline. With Microsoft courting more developers on their mobile platform, and with apps like AppComparison, they may see success in convincing Android users to switch or to add Windows 10 Mobile devices into their stash of tech toys.

It is one of the shrewd year-end moves from tech companies, and it seems like all of them are targeting the Android market share. With Android taking up 82% of the whole smartphone ecosystem, according to a Q2 2015 report by IDC Research Inc., it makes sense why the other tech giants are taking on Android. With the release of AppComparison, it looks like Microsoft is aggressively taking a swipe at Android’s robust market share.
