Fresh on the heels of the report that the Apple Watch’s sales have plummeted 90%, it looks like David Singleton and the rest of the team behind Android Wear remains undaunted, as it’s even coming up with a fresh release, and soon.
According to tech pundits, Android Wear will be taking not just a page, but pageS off the Apple Watch’s book: Some features on the upcoming version of Android Wear already seem to be implemented on the Apple Watch. But no matter, it’s all about making sure that technology is not just wearable, it should also be usable. While Android Wear may only poising to just catch up with the Apple Watch, pretty soon it could be coming up with innovations that will leave the Apple Watch behind.
But first, the updates.
• WiFi support for some devices. Sadly, the LG Watch R users were left in the dust when an update adding WiFi functionality to Android Wear devices was rolled out. This update promises to grant this functionality to the LG Watch R users.
• Tap Gestures. While the current version of Android Wear already supports four gestures, the expanded tap gestures will enable the user to expand menus on the watch’s apps. More information for the apps they use, more options, and expanded functionality.
• “Together.” The Apple Watch already lets users send heartbeats and doodles to each other. But “Together” aims to take this feature a step higher by letting the user send emojis, stickers, and even messages to other Android Wear users. These, aside from doodles and heartbeats, will be available to Android Wear users in the upcoming update.
• Over the air sync. While both Android Wear and Apple Watch already have this feature, Apple Watches need to be on the same network as the other devices, in order for it to sync information. The Android Wear lets you sync data even when the Android Wear device and the other device are on different networks. So with the new update, you may be able to leave your Android smartphone in your desk drawer, then go to lunch with just your Android Wear smartwatch. You’ll never miss a beat with your email and other messages.
An Android Wear device lets you bring your notifications and some supported apps as you temporarily part with your smartphone. It also lets you stream or play music from the device itself. Soon, you’ll have all these new features outlined, and enjoy your Android Wear even better.
