The "Shelfie" Is Instagram's Latest Craze. According to the WSJ, given that the objects are often arrayed on a shelf or the equivalent (a windowsill, a desk), users might even call the images "#shelfies." For Instagrammers, the term shelfie has been commonly used typically when they've snapped bookcases. The Wall Street Journal describes the trend for creating assemblages extends further than Instagram. Over the past few years, otherwise normal people have embraced the idea of styling their possessions into striking compositions—a persistent habit among the design cognoscenti since British interior decorator David Hicks coined the word "tablescape" in the 1960s.
The team at Gmail even had recently released its Gmail Shelfie to the world as nothing but an April fools launch. “Gmail has been the pioneering platform for selfies. The Gmail team is committed to being at the forefront of innovation in the selfie space. By launching Gmail Shelfie earlier last month, the SHareable sELFIE is built on the idea that users shouldn’t be selfish a selfie. With just a few clicks, the Shelfie can be set as a Gmail theme for checking, reading, and writing emails while at the same time viewing a photo background.”

A shelfie is best described as a picture which is taken, usually by a smartphone or a similar device, of somebody with a bookshelf or bookshelves behind them. “Home is where you hang your bike, by Juergen Beneke” is featured on Kickstarter. Juergen’s story goes on as, “Bikes have been in my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Germany, I raced road, mountain, BMX and track bikes. Life just seems better when you ride a bike. “ “Today I own many different bikes for many different purposes. “
“ So when I was looking for a way to hang them on the wall, I couldn't find one solution that would work for all my bikes. I didn't want to scratch the paint on the top tubes or kink the cables. That is when I decided to design Shelfie. The first "patent pending" bike shelf that uses the seat to hook and hang your bike. “
The overall funding goal, will allow the Shelfie mold to be produced by a well established tool and die shop. When the tooling is completed, it will be sent to our plastics manufacturer to begin the Shelfie production stages. Lastly, the vinyl protectors will be cut to size at Usheco Inc. in Kingston NY. The first "ever" plastic molded production Shelfies should reach its backers by October of this year.
