Apr 07, 2014 09:47 AM EDT

Sonos Inc., said revenue almost doubled to $535 million in 2013 as consumers increasingly used wireless technology with music services like Pandora in the home. According to a recent Bloomberg report, the closely held maker of high-fidelity speakers and streaming software is disclosing its revenue for the first time. The company competes with Samsung Electronics Co. As of last October, Samsung introduced the Shape music system. Bose had also brought to market a wireless home speaker system, SoundTouch.

Sonos is a system of HiFi wireless speakers and audio components. The Android wireless speaker system integrates a digital music collection in one app. Users can add Sonos to any part of the room through a dedicated wireless network. Sonos makes it easy for everybody to listen to the music they love in every room of their home. The company is in stores in over 60 countries, in seven languages through thousands of retailers.

According to Sonos, wireless speakers and systems represent the fastest growing segment in home audio. The company recently posted in its blog that the market has seen numerous new entrants, from start-ups you’ve possibly never heard of to bigger brands you might know. Sonos sees this as great news for consumers because more competition should only improve everyone’s experience with music at home.
