Samsung Pleased With Olympic Winter Games

According to Samsung, the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games were the most wireless and paperless in the history of the sporting event thanks in large part to the company’s various products and services available at the Olympic Village. Between the Galaxy Studio, sponsorship of the Jamaican Bobsleigh Team and Wireless Olympic Works (WOW) app, Samsung had a fairly large presence in Sochi but it’s digital footprint was even larger.

Samsung says that more than 100 million posts and interactions occurred through its WOW app during the Olympic games, and that the International Olympic Committee pushed over 23,000 real-time event updates through the app.

“Samsung is changing how athletes, fans and the Olympic Family interact with and experience the Olympic Games, using mobile devices and wireless technologies that are an inseparable part of our daily lives,” said Younghee Lee, executive vice president of mobile marketing, IT & mobile division at Samsung Electronics in a press statement. “Never before have there been so many ways to create, share and experience the excitement of this global event with such personal relevance.”

In addition to various digital offerings, Samsung provided each athlete who competed at the Sochi Games with a Galaxy Note 3. Around 240,000 fans also had the opportunity to test out the company’ products at the Samsung Galaxy Studio.

Samsung has sponsored 26 previous Olympics and called the Sochi Games the most interactive to date. The company says it looks forward to continuing its commitment in 2016 in Rio.
