Feb 20, 2014 12:22 PM EST

Android YotaPhone is an innovative smartphone from Yota Devices, a company based in Russia. The phone is currently only available to ship in Russia, Germany, Austria, France and Spain. The phone was unveiled late last year with the company promising that “smartphones will never be the same” again. Yota has also developed applications.

The Android device has a customised Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 version. Users can swipe and tap gestures with the  e-ink display. Other features include an accelerometer, compass, gyroscope, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, FM radio, micro-SIM, special YotaPhone gestures and Put2Back applications for the back screen.

The electronic paper display is always on. Android users can view notices, emails, tweets and other information in real time without picking up or even activating the phone. If the battery dies, the most recent information on the EPD will remain visible. Uses can also use this data to save  important information.

The electronic paper screen allows users to experience a longer lasting, more comfortable reading experience. The Android smartphone and e-reader comes as an all in one device instead of two. When users flip the phone, footnotes on the page they are reading the device as it automatically appears on the LCD.

Have you ever missed an important call, message or notification simply because it only appeared on your screen for a brief moment? The company describes its electronic paper display on the YotaPhone to show all vital notifications of your choice on-screen for as long as users need them or until they are ready to respond to them.

YotaPhone helps the user express themselves. Getting rid of a phone case and changing personal wallpaper on the e-ink screen can be conducted at any time they want. Create a personal manifesto by placing achievements and information on the back screen. The device can be used to keep motivated and to achieve personal goals.
