The Nokia X “Normandy” release date has been confirmed for the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona as the entry level Android flagship has been leaked. Nokia has a countdown on their site for the time left to the Nokia press conference in Barcelona where they are expected to announce the latest Nokia smartphone.
The Nokia X “Normandy” is no flagship though. From what we have seen and heard this is very much an entry-level Nokia device. Perhaps that’s smart because after joining Windows Nokia isn’t well positioned to compete in the flagship Android market. The Nokia X specs are very much entry with a dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor clocked at 1GHz. It has 512 MB of memory, 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot for 32Gb more storage, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 4-inch 854 x 480 display with 285 ppi. The Nokia X runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
The specs aren’t going to get a diehard Android fan boy excited, but the $100 price tag will. We can see that the Nokia X is targeting the same market as the Moto G and other affordable entry level and mid-range devices. These aren’t great specs by any means, but this is a dirt cheap phone and it runs the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat with all the performance and software optimizations. Google boasted that Android 4.4.2 KitKat could run on as little as 512 MB of RAM and now Nokia has proved it. That’s quite the feat and it will be interesting to see what the Nokia X “Normandy” has to offer when it is launched at MWC 2014.
The Conversations team is getting ready for its annual trip to Barcelona for Mobile World Congress, the industry’s biggest and most important show. Last year’s show saw the announcement of the Nokia Lumia 520 and Lumia 720, and the Nokia 301 and Nokia 105, plus a host of other goodies.
What’s new this year? There’s less than a week until you find out…
