Lenovo Is Rolling Out Its First LTE Android Smartphone

Lenovo isn’t particularly well known for making smartphones, but the company is looking to change that with a line of newly announced Android handsets. Though the new smartphones likely won’t see an American roll out any time soon, the Vibe Z nevertheless deserves some attention if for no reason other than being Lenovo’s very first LTE Android phone.

“We created the new Vibe Z with its elegant design, high performance and custom software so that people can truly have the best smartphone experience now at the speed of LTE,” said Liu Jun, senior vice president, Lenovo Business Group, Lenovo in a press statement. “Along with the Vibe Z, our new S and A Series smartphones offer consumers choices of screen size and features so they can pick the Lenovo smartphone that’s right for them.”   

The Vibe Z packs some pretty interesting features, as well as a nice spec sheet. Lenovo says it will run proprietary software tailored to a motion control and gesture system that will make the phone easier to use with one hand. Its 13-megapixel camera boats an f1.8 aperture lens engineered for low-light photography.

The rest of the phone’s hardware is equally impressive, particularly its Quad Core 2.2GHz Snapdragon processor, which is the result of a partnership with the Snapdragon king itself, Qualcomm.

“We are proud to collaborate with Lenovo to enable the company’s first LTE smartphone,” said Raj Talluri, senior vice president of product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “The new Vibe Z utilizes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with integrated LTE technology to deliver superfast web browsing and unmatched multimedia features for an outstanding user experience,” the company said.

Between the Vibe Z’s 2.2GHz of Snapdragon processing power and its 5.5” HD screen, the phone’s graphics output will certainly be nothing to scoff at, but neither will its price tag. The Vibe Z will retail at $549.

The Vibe Z will begin shipping in February to Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates the Philippines.
