CM Oppo N1 ROM Released

Dec 26, 2013 06:23 PM EST

Over Christmas Eve, Oppo announced that it had begun shipping the limited edition CM N1, which runs CyanogenMod out of the box. The company also indicated that it would release the custom ROM powering the phone for use on any other variant of the N1 and today, Oppo posted said ROM files on their official forum.

Oppo provides simple, step-by-step instructions detailing how to load CyanogenMod onto your device and there is also a tutorial explaining how to revert back to the N1’s native operating system, which is called Color OS.

“As we have promised earlier, you can now download the CyanogenMod firmware for your beloved OPPO N1 and install it easily on any version of the phone. This ROM is maintained by the CyanogenMod team and they will be responsible for keeping it updated over time,” Oppo wrote on its official forum. “CyanogenMod was specially tailored to support all of the N1's innovative hardware and software features like the O-Touch Panel, O-Click Bluetooth remote control, the revolutionary rotating camera, and also unique features from ColorOS such as double tap to wake and screen-off gestures.”

As we reported previously, Oppo is a Chinese electronics manufacturer that isn’t known particularly well for its smartphones in the U.S. The company seems to be looking to make a mark among the Android tinkerer community with its partnership with CyanogenMod and so far, reviews for the N1 have been pretty decent.

While the phone is far from cheap—around $600 with no carrier subsidy available—the hardware is nothing to scoff at. The Oppo N1 boasts a 1.7GHz Quad Core Snapdragonn processor, Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB RAM. Internal storage starts at 16GB and can be upgraded to 32GB. The phone ships running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, but given the agreement with CyanogenMod, users should have no trouble whatsoever loading the latest KitKat build if they’d like to.
