Mobile data and the importance of Android smartphones are highly visible in the market. Voice centered data has been the priority for mobile device organizations however mobile data has derived significant revenues over voice. Mobile data is overtaking voice as a primary traffic revenue source. According to Chetan Sharma Consulting, data accounted for 48 percent of all U.S. mobile industry service revenues, with carriers gaining $22.8 billion from data in Q3, up 5 percent from the previous quarter and 15 percent year over year. Chetan Sharma Consulting forecasts that voice revenue will decline in 2014 making it the first year mobile data will have higher revenues.

comScore reported Google Android led as the #1 smartphone platform with 52 percent platform market share. Google Sites ranked as the top mobile media property, while Facebook was the top individual app. Smartphone OEM Market Share 143.3 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (60 percent mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in July, up 3 percent since April. Samsung ranked second to Apple with 24.1 percent market share (up 2.1 percentage points), followed by HTC with 8 percent, Motorola with 6.9 percent and LG with 6.8 percent.

The top smartphone OEMs in the U.S. of Smartphone Subscribers Age 13+ came from Android makers Samsung, HTC and and LG. Apple was reported as number one smartphone OEMs at as estimate 40% share according to comScore. Smartphone Platform Market Share for Android ranked as the top smartphone platform in July with 51.8 percent market share, followed by Apple with 40.4 percent (up 1.2 percentage points), BlackBerry with 4.3 percent, Microsoft with 3 percent and Symbian with 0.3 percent.

Top Smartphone Properties & Apps by comScore reported Google Sites ranked as the top web property on smartphones, reaching 92.6 percent of the mobile media audience (mobile browsing and app usage), followed by Facebook (86.3 percent), Yahoo! Sites (81.7 percent) and Amazon Sites (66.8 percent). Facebook ranked as the top smartphone app, reaching 76.1 percent of the app audience, followed by five Google-owned apps: YouTube (53.7 percent), Google Play (53.6 percent), Google Search (53.5 percent), Google Maps (46.2 percent) and Gmail.

Smartphone Global Mobile Growth, mobile device market is the fastest growing market sector today being let by smartphone users worldwide. Wireless Intelligence had stated in its report "1.5 billion subscribers will be added to 3G networks in the next two years." The smartphone market is expected to grow to 18.3% compounded annually through 2016. It is estimated that 1 in 7 of the world's population owned a smartphone in the third quarter of 2012. Global growth has yet to penetrate in the market. It is forecasted the next billion growth of smartphones to be achieved in less than three years, by 2015.
