LG G2 Android 4.4 KitKat for Q1

The LG G2 will begin receiving updates for Android 4.4 KitKat in Q1 2014. The update will be released for Android 4.4 KitKat for all carriers around the same timeframe. There is presently no exact date for the update. Android 4.4 KitKat will be updated via FOTA (firmware over-the-air).

According to Mobile Syrup quotes, LG Canada's representative, Court Elliot confirmed that Android KitKat update for LG G2 mobile device will roll out late Q1 2014 or at the end of March. There were also reports of earlier release dates. LG has not announced the software update as of yet.

LG G2’s Kit Kat 4.4 update has been reported to roll out for LG Korea local phones. This will be the first OEM for KitKat. Android users here will have to use LG’s official update tool instead of an OTA update. The first KitKat OEM will be built before Samsung. LG Canada is scheduled for Q1 2014. It was also reported that U.S markets will be be announced around this same time frame.

The company has achieved 12.0M units of smartphone shipments during Q3 2013. This has resulted from improved LTE sales by 31 percent QoQ due to the launching of LG G2. LG 3G sales declined due to increased competition in developing markets. The smartphone market will still continue to grow.

LG plans to increase its premium smartphone sales through its global launch of the LG G2. The company will focus on enhancing marketing for both Mass LTE and 3G smartphones. These efforts will result in sales maximized during peak seasons and to improve its overall brand power.

The market outlook is weak due to off-season effect and unstable political and economical conditions in the Middle East and Africa Plan. LG plans to increase sales by strengthening marketing for non seasonal products along with globally launching of new models.

The average price of smartphones had dropped by as much as 13 percent this year. According to IDC, worldwide smartphone shipments are expected to surpass 1.0 billion units in 2013, representing 39.3 percent growth over 2012. Despite a number of mature markets nearing smartphone saturation, the demand for low-cost computing in emerging markets continues to drive the smartphone market forward. By 2017, total smartphone shipments are expected to approach 1.7 billion units, resulting in a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.4 percent from 2013 to 2017.
