Installing Android 4.3.1 On Galaxy S2

The Samsung Galaxy S2 can be updated to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean through official firmware builds, but if you’re looking for a slightly fresher variant of Jelly Bean, the SlimBean team has you covered with a custom ROM based on Android 4.3.1.

As always, DroidReport assumes no liability for the firmware installation. Proceed with caution.

Before Getting Started

Before you get started, make sure that your Galaxy S2 is the GT-I9100 model. You will also need to root your device and install ClockworkMod Recovery.

As always, you want to backup your device and charge it to at least 80 percent. Finally, enable USB Debugging mode by navigating to Settings -> Developer Options.

Installing SlimBean Stable ROM (Jelly Bean 4.3.1) On Samsung’s Galaxy S2

1) You’ll need to download the ROM, which can be found here, as well as the Google Apps package, available here.

2) Using your USB cable, connect your S2 to a computer and copy the SlimBean ROM and Google Apps package to the root folder of your S2’s SD card.

3) Boot into recovery mode by holding down Home, Volume Up and Power buttons until you seen a Samsung logo appear onscreen. You’re now in recovery mode.

4) Perform “wipe data/factory reset,” “wipe cache,” “wipe dalvik cache,” and finally, format the system through the “mounts and storage” submenu in CWM Recovery.

5) Hit “Install Zip from SD card” within CWM recovery and navigate to the ROM you copied earlier, which will be in a .zip archive. Once you select the ROM, your Galaxy S2 will begin to install SlimBean and the process should take five minutes or so to finish. Do nothing until the installation is complete. Repeat this step to install the Google Apps package.

6) Once the ROM is loaded, navigate to “Reboot System Now” and allow the phone to restart. Once it boots back up, you are officially running SlimBean Jelly Bean 4.3.1. Kudos.
