Budget Smartphones Growth

Android budget smartphones are on the rise. There are new local brands in the Asian countries causing market growth with Android phones sold in the $50 to 100 range. Ramon Llamas, research manager with IDC's Mobile Phone team stated, "Android boasted a broad selection of smartphones, and an equally deep list of smartphone vendor partners. Finding an Android smartphone for nearly any budget, taste, size, and price was all but guaranteed during 2012. As a result, Android was rewarded with market-beating growth." Thanks to Android and open source, budget smartphone dominance remains strong on Android’s platform.

Google / Tech Fever

Google Android OS still remains a leader in the worldwide smartphone market. Android expansion has been focused in emerging. Android phones are anticipated to saturate in emerging markets such as Asia, India and Africa. These countries thrive on devices under $150. Small manufacturers  and older devices with older Android versions developed  by larger manufacturers such as Samsung and Motorola will also drive market growth.

OpenStack has been making significant traction with enterprise organizations for its cloud architecture. Growth opportunities for investors with enterprises adopting OpenStack would allow the companies to proposition about its service offerings. 2013 is a big year for cloud adoption. Gartner predicts that from 2013 through 2016, $677 billion will be spent on cloud services worldwide, $310 billion of which will be spent on cloud advertising.  Gartner estimates that enterprises will spend $80 billion on cloud computing by 2016.

Now, for the first time, organizations have core open source-based technologies to build enterprise-class cloud services. Standards and open source revolutionized the Web and Linux. OpenStack will also have a tremendous impact on cloud computing. These services can be ported across hybrid cloud environments.

Cloud companies will now adapt and interoperate with open source. Interoperability will allow organizations to build their own private clouds across the estimated multi-trillion dollar industry. AllThingsD: "IBM's (IBM) support of OpenStack, an open source cloud infrastructure originally designed at NASA, was not unexpected. The company has been a big sponsor of the OpenStack Foundation for almost a year. "

Motorola’s latest smartphone "Moto G" costs just $179 in the U.S.  Google’s Motorola Mobility division plans to  compete with budget phones against its rival companies. The cost of labor, which on average is three to five times lower in these countries than it is in the developed world, also makes emerging markets attractive for labor.

As Android continues to dominate, Samsung resulted in its largest contributor. The other Android vendors continue to also contribute market share. Linux’s NEC and Panasonic have been moving to Android however the company is gaining from new companies such as Haier. New smartphones such as Tizen and Ubuntu powered by Linux OS still will take time to maturity in the market. Mid-market and low-end smartphone devices are driving growth.
