An Unbranded Version Of Android 4.1.2 Can Be Flashed To The Galaxy Note 2

Oct 31, 2013 04:47 PM EDT

Android users are notoriously picky about their OS version and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 owners are certainly no exception. While Google today officially unveiled Android 4.4 Kit Kat, the latest is not always the greatest and for this reason, DroidReport is bringing you an unbranded version of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean to tinker with to your heart’s content.

The firmware build is designated XXDMG1 and works for any unlocked Galaxy Note 2 handset with the model number GT-N7100, except for units originating in China, Hong Kong or Taiwan.

As always, DroidReport assumes no liability for the firmware installation. Proceed with caution.

Before Getting Started

Before you get started, ensure that your Galaxy Note 2 is the factory unlocked GT-N7100 model and is rooted.

As always, you want to backup your device and charge it to at least 80 percent.

Finally, enable USB Debugging mode by navigating to Settings -> Developer Options.

Updating Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (GT-N7100) to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean

1) Download and extract the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware, which can be found here.

2) Download and extract Odin.

3) Right-click Odin and launch the application as an administrator.

4) Boot your Galaxy Note 2 into Download mode by pressing the Volume Down, Power and Home buttons together until a warning prompt appears. Once you see the prompt, press Volume Up to enter download mode.

5) Using your USB cable, connect your Note 2 to your computer.

6) Using Odin, install the following files extracted earlier from the firmware .zip archive.

            A) Press PDA and select the file ending in.tar.md5.

            B) Press Phone and select the file with MODEM in the file path.

            C) Press CSC and select the file with CSC in the file path.

            D) Press PIT and select the file ending in .pit.

7) Navigate to the Option submenu in Odin and check Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time. Uncheck Re-Partition.

8) In Odin, click Start and the installation will begin.

9) When the firmware has finished flashing to your Galaxy Note 2, you should see a PASS message.

10) Once the PASS message appears, your phone will restart and you will be running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Kudos.
