Android navigation is coming to Hyundai and KIA. This will be the first time for OEMs in the world, that AVN is fully implemented to an Android OS. The car makers are set to deliver the first AVN System to Android OS. An Android OS-based next-generation audio video navigation system is planned to be installed in all of Hyundai and KIA’s newest car models being released next year.
The Android AVN system is designed to integrate into all smartphone functionality. Hyundai and KIA will also have its own App store for free download and telematics service. For KIA, the system is called UVO 2.0. UVO 2.0 will be in All New Soul and its AVN system. Hyundai is expected to install the same system to its New Genesis.

The impressive 2014 Soul was one of the highlights at the auto trade shows earlier this year with KIA introducing the redesign of its UVO system to its updated version UVO 2.0. The 2014 Soul features Android’s OS. The latest version runs on Android Gingerbread. The customized system for automotive was redesigned specifically to ensure driver safety. Android users will expect quality functionality and optimized web connectivity.

Hyundai and KIA’s Android-based AVN system reinforces quality connectivity between the cars and using smart devices. The system is linked to the Android devices which offers connectivity and multimedia features. The system implements a new telematics functionality. This allows the user to control their car remotely using only WiFi and modem connectivity.
The next-generation smart car market offers many promises. According to Global Insight, “The Asian countries, especially China and India, are expected to account for 40% of growth in the auto industry over the next five to seven years being the rapidly growing economies. According to Global Insight -- a U.S. based provider of economic and financial information -- 14.7% of growth is expected to come from India and 8.3% from China by 2013.“ Automotive companies such as Hyundai and KIA are leveraging new smart car strategies to expand Android base connectivity. Android will improve vehicle connectivity, safety and performance experiences. The Android OS AVN system is set to launch “All New Soul” and “New Genesis” the end of this year.
IT challenges for car makers remains competitive. The pressure within the industry to drive innovation, globalize applications and enhance collaboration is aggressive. The automotive industry alone is highly competitive with 90 percent of cars sold in the United States -- and 80 percent of global production -- is derived from the top 10 global automakers. Car makers Hyundai and KIA will remain competitive by meeting consumer demand through pricing and advanced technologies.
