Tegra 4 Phone ZTE U988S Leak: Nvidia To Launch First Phone With Tegra Processor Equivalent To Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 [REPORT]

Jul 10, 2013 01:08 PM EDT

Tegra 4 Phone ZTE U988S will be the first phone in the world to have a Tegra 4 processor from Nvidia. The phone’s processor will be equivalent to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, widely considered to be one of the best and most efficient processor current available.

The rumored specs of the Tegra 4 phone are as possible:

The photos are purported to be press images of a rather bright red ZTE U988S. This is rumored to be powered by a 1.8GHz Tegra 4 processor, which is said to offer similar performance to the much-admired Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset. Other specs include a 5-inch Full HD display, 2GB of RAM, and microSD storage expansion. The ZTE U988S is also rumored to tote a 13-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and running Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean. This ZTE device is also said to be 9mm thick, according to Phone Arena, but comments to their story show mixed feelings.

Overall the specs look pretty good but many commenters condemned the design as mediocre and uninspired. ZTE is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer that Nvidia has partnered with. Compared to the sleek Sony Xperia Z, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Motorla the phone does look rather unattractive.

Another problem the ZTE U988S faces is that it may take a long time before it ever gets a US release, in fact chances are that it may not come to the US at all. The release date of the Tegra 4 phone is expected in mid-2013, so if the device does come to the US it will have to compete with several of the aforementioned upcoming flagships.
