The OnePlus 5 launched a few days ago after months of hype, speculation, and anticipation. The smartphone is a complete update over its predecessor and comes with updated cameras, a thinner design, top-air line specifications and top build quality. However, the one thing the OnePlus failed to confirm was whether the device is water resistant leading everyone to believe that it wasn't. However, a new report now claims that the OnePlus 5 has some amount of water resistance.
However, the latest report by frandroid claims that the OnePlus 5 is, in fact, waterproof and might get the IP67 rating if it passed the certification. In addition, a video on YouTube uploaded by user Shaizor gives credibility to these claims. Youtuber places the OnePlus 5 in a bowl and pours in water till the smartphone is submerged. After a full minute, he takes the smartphone out of the water and tests it. And the OnePlus 5 passes the test with flying colors - no display glitches, the camera work fine and the touch is responsive.
The publication also speculates that the OnePlus 5 has an IP67-level of protection. But that the company, like Apple, did with the iPhone 6s, chose not to publicly reveal this information.
These reports hint towards the fact that the OnePlus 5 is coming with at least some level of waterproofing. However, it is not still sure on that the device is IP67 capable or not, according to NDTV.
On the other hand, a tear-down by popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything revealed that the OnePlus 5 does not come with any adhesive around the charging port or around the edges of the screen to prove it is fully water resistant. Thus the OnePlus 5 might have limited water resistance, but it does not look like it is fully waterproof, especially up to an IPX7 standard.
